Oil spill update II…
The current test results on the new cap are less than optimal. Still, the news is better than it was in that the cap is thus far holding., which is great, but leaves other problems unsolved.
An LSU professor has designed an elegantly simple skimmer, and tested it on a small scale. Rest assured we won’t see it in action any time soon due to the glacial pace of the government. In fact, by the time it gets a look, the spilled oil will have emulsified, making the oil much harder tor remove from the water.
This video lays out the time-line of the bungling by His Oneness.
But this video is even more important, with ordinary people telling how locals are being destroyed by work rules and retaliated against.
Coffee truths…
If you want to know real stuff about coffee, read this. It’s more about caffeine, but I found it interesting. I drink it because it tastes so good, and nothing smells better than coffee brewing.
I use coffee from Costa Rica, which I buy in 40 pound lots, though occasionally I’ll have some Jamaican or Kenyan coffee. I put all but a pound in the freezer, and put that pound in a freezer bag to keep in the fridge, taking out the amount of roasted beans I need for each pot. The coffee goes straight into a stainless steel carafe, which keeps it hot enough for drinking about 12 hours. Since it doesn’t keep me awake, I even drink it at night sometimes, especially in the winter — nothing warms up a cold, weary body better.
