Olympic ghost town…

leave a comment »

Cities always tout the  economic benefits  of hosting an Olympic competition,  but few of them actually break even.   I would personally throttle the entire government if I lived in a city which tried to be host of even a single Olympics venue,   much less the whole shebang.

Except this time it’s  Rome’s coliseum,  not Pisa’s tower.

And you wonder why so  many college  students and recent graduates were dumb enough to vote for His Oneness…

Stone lions…

The Hittites were an interesting culture,  which we unfortunately don’t know all that much about.   This  find of lions  carved into stones presents more information without explanation.

Guns save lives…

You’re not likely  to see this  on national news,  because an armed citizen proved once again that a man with a knife gives up when confronted with a gun.   Too bad no one with a gun was in the Aurora movie theater.

2012 Olympics…

leave a comment »

The charmingly  eccentric video  at the opening featuring Her Majesty and the actor Daniel Craig (the new James Bond) was my favorite segment,  though  the unique torch  was an elegant surprise.   I agree that the ceremony was  more punk than pomp,  which is no doubt why certain parts did less than nothing for me.

Beautiful and bizarre  co-exist in London,  just as they have in every Olympics I remember watching.   And there will be activities behind the scenes that we may see  only the results  of.  Have some history of Olympic  art competitions.
