PETA deserves…

…to be laughed at when they claim headlines with  stunts such  as this.   Of course,  it crafts such stunts in order to gain publicity.  I would have a great deal more respect for PETA if they actually helped animals,  as I have personally been doing for many decades,  both by taking in the unwanted and by monetary donations.

Bees go for hot dogs…

New York City is never short on the interesting or the bizarre.  Bees swarming the  umbrella on a hot dog cart seem to qualify as both.   Fear not  —  they were rescued by a NYC cop who keeps bees himself.

Missiles away…

leave a comment »

If you boast about a missile’s “unlimited range’  you are a liar,  of course, or Pres. Vladimir Putin.   Shouldn’t you be just a wee bit embarrassed that you are now sending three ships  to recover  the one which landed in the Barents Sea last year during a failed test?

Neil Simon, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

If you saw a Broadway play any time in the last several decades,  it was probably  written by  Neil Simon.   He had a few failures along the way,  but some of his successes not only thrived on Broadway,  but also became hit television series and movies.  I can almost guarantee that your funny bone has been tickled by Mr. Simon’s work at some point in your life.   To me his genius was looking at American families instead of focusing on the elites and aberrants.   He will be missed.

John McCain, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

Sen. John McCain announced he was  discontinuing  his brain cancer treatment just a few days ago, and  has now  died.   He will be lionized,  but I shall not join in,  and I will not miss him.   I miss Charles Krauthammer daily,  his wit and wisdom and turn of phrase having been part of my life for many years.

McCain spent most of his life being a jerk and glorying in it.   He held himself out to be a moral arbiter,  conveniently forgetting what he and John Kerry did to the families of Vietnam POW’s.   I always suspected he himself thought he had failed to live up to his father and grandfather —    one of the few things I agreed with him on.   The only behavior I saw consistent evidence of was his belief that he should be more important than anyone else.   He changed his stances on political issues depending largely on whether he sought more approval from his squishy buddies and the liberal media.  The same  liberal media  which called him a racist and Islamophobe during his presidential run against Sait Barack Obama, are now praising McCain, as he is now dead and has no chance to rise up and object to their narrative.

I hope he rests in peace,  but I will not mourn him.

Sen. Chuck Schumer is introducing a resolution  to rename  a Senate  office building after McCain.   I doubt it is because Schumer either liked or respected him.   Sarah Palin  was most  gracious  —  probably more than her former running mate deserved.   Pres.  Trump responded appropriately and quickly given the acrimony between the two men.

UPDATE:  Meghan McCain is entitled to give a  lovely tribute  to her father.   Hillary’s memories  lack class,  but what else would you expect?

UPDATE:  Vietnam  remembers  the Navy pilot it arrested too.   So does Jay Nordlinger.

Shameful scoffing…

read this  three times,  trying to decide if it was fake,  but given the behavior of some lefties of late, realized it was probably the real thing.  Who else would be protesting about “scoffing”?

Ed King, R.I.P.

You didn’t have to be a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan to like  “Sweet Home Alabama”.   You didn’t even need to be a rock ‘n roll fan, strictly speaking,  to be grabbed by the chorus and rough edges.   The co-writer of that hit tune  was Ed  King,  who was with other well-known bands before joining the group in 1972.

Canada deserves a face slap…

leave a comment »

Yeah,  it does, because it’s  crimping free  speech there while spending millions lobbying our Congress in an effort to retain its lopsided NAFTA benefits.   In other words it is exercising very free speech here by its spending,  while trying to insure no foreign government interferes in Canadian affairs.   Can it get any more hypocritical?

Too few good men…

leave a comment »

Hat tip to Ramesh Ponnuru for providing us the link to Mark Perry’s depressing article  on the problems military recruitment is currently undergoing.   And yeah,  that goes for the females as well.

My family has been in America since before it was America,  and every generation has seen military service,  right through to the present.   The current dilemma is largely a result of progressive policies demonizing the military,  the horrors of the modern educational system run nearly everywhere by liberals and progressives,  and idiot parents who produce incurious, arrogant, unfit snowflakes who can’t manage to get their underwear washed and attend a few classes a day without the support of a life counselor and a crying closet.  My parents would have disowned me  if I had been such a pathetic weakling, and they would have been right to.

If you were born in any of America’s ghettos,  you will probably never meet your father,  who your mother may or may not be able to identify. If you live in a progressive city,  you are likely doomed to join a gang for protection since the politicians won’t let the police patrol your neighborhood, or put away the criminals who control the hoods.  But if you can manage to become at least semi-literate,  the military offers you a door not opened for you elsewhere.  Grit your teeth,  hang on by your fingernails and at least get enough education to qualify for the service.  It makes men of many,  and some of them turn out to be very, very good men.
