To be an adult…

leave a comment »

Robert Hall has written a  superb column  illustrating with extreme clarity the difference between being an adult,  which is what most conservatives aspire to become,  and being an aging adolescent,  which is what most progressives desire to become and forever be.

One of the most amusing aspects of the Trump presidency is how reliably it makes the Left expose its deep-rooted insecurities and hypocrisies and lies and weaknesses.

Hugh Hefner, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

Hugh Hefner  has died,  having lived long enough to see the open sexual revolution he helped birth become rather ordinary behavior.  I may be a prude,  but I can’t say that our culture was improved any by the grand event.

This cartoon sums up Hefner rather nicely I think.

UPDATE:   This will  explain the damage Hefner did.

Obama the uncool…

leave a comment »

His Oneness thinks it’s cool that  he cried  after dropping his daughter off to begin college?  Oh,  please!   Everything in the universe  is about Obama,  no one else.   My parents put me on an airplane and sent me off with their love,  confidence,  and a limited allowance.   They did not teach me that my lavish vacations should be at the expense of others,  or that I should expect to be given jobs because of who my father was instead of what I could produce,  or that I could lie with impunity if my goal was proper.   My parents did their job  —  which was to give me roots, then wings.   They loved me enough to teach me how to operate in the real world,  not in a progressive fantasy land.

Ever been lonely?

leave a comment »

I have never in my life been as lonely for 60 seconds as these  poor people seem to be most of the time.  I have always felt fortunate that I was rather like Kipling’s cat who  walked alone,  so perhaps that’s why it’s difficult for me to understand just how bereft these people are,  yet so few of them seem willing to do anything to increase their level of human contact.

If I were not content with my own company,  I would try to change something in my life instead of suffering.   Do some of these lonesome souls suffer from some sort of personality disorder as well?

Blue tarantulas…

leave a comment »

India has some strange critters,  but these  bright blue spiders  might take the cake.   The species is currently found in only a 38 square-mile area of the country and is considered critically endangered due to loss of habitat. I would have guessed their conspicuous coloration was at least partly responsibly for their rarity,  but scientists say they don’t know yet.

A big thanks…

leave a comment »

No doubt about it  —  a huge thank you is due from Floridians to the thousands of power and tree removal crews who showed up to help the hurrican-stricken state.   Some of the out-of-state utilities had contract arrangements with Florida,  some just came because they could and wanted to help their fellow citizens in a crisis they were uniquely qualified to deal with.   This was not arranged by the goverment,  or ordered by some federal buraucrat behind a desk.  This was Americans  and American companies helping Americans,  and nobody does it better.

People who are free to use their training and creativity and ingenuity to get the job done are each and every one national treasures and should be treated as such, not told by the chronic under-achievers who populate the political class that  “you didn’t build that”.   After an heroic two-week effort of dawn-to-dusk work,  power has ben restored to all but about 3% of Floridians,  which is an astonishing feat.   If you happen to see part of the departing convoys out on the roadways in your area,  at least give them a thumbs up as you pass.

Hurricane garbage…

leave a comment »

Part of the problem is whether an area has a solid garbage and debri collection and disposal program in place.   Most cities claim to,  unlike New Orleans,  which still hasn’t cleaned up from Katrina.   Of course,  part of the problem in New orleans was that the corrupt politicians had been taking taxpayer money for decades and spending it on everything but rehabiliting and inproving the levee system,  and not one of them has spent an hour in jail because of it.

The Houston mayor is quite a bit better,  but he is howling for more federal money.  Florida seems to have a better plan,  though the Keys appears to be lagging behind.   There is actually a pretty sophisticated method for  disposing of all the debris and garbage.
