Temperance Union…

I had no idea the Woman’s Christian Temperance  Union still  existed.  Its few remaining members still promote total abstinence from alcohol, tobacco and drugs.   I wonder if th y’ll survive until their 150th anniversary?

If you must…

…live in Vladivostok,  Russia,  you really ought to obtain a vehicle equipped with winter tires and learn how to drive it.   Either that,  or find a way to avoid this  truly nasty hill.

Little Sisters under attack again…

leave a comment »

If you don’t believe progressives are mean-spirited to the point of insanity,  this should  change your mind.   There is no other explanation for various states going after the Little Sisters of the Poor for failing to provide contraception to their employees when the Supreme Court has already ruled in the Sisters’ favor on this matter.   Do Democrats really think that attacking a bunch of nuns who minister to the poor actually wins points with voters?

Merry jihadi Christmas…

This explains  what is wrong with Europe.   Sweden has put holiday greenery atop concrete K-Rail barriers,  positioned around local holiday markets to stop terrorist attacks by vehicles.   For me,  this reads as an acknowledgement and acceptance of the fact that there will be a holiday  terrorist attack and the authorities will not be able to stop it.   Citizens will just have to adjust to what Barack Obama called the new normal,  because their politically correct governments will not do what is necessary to protect them from Islamic terrorists.

Black Friday breakdown…

leave a comment »

Full confession:  I don’t do Black Friday.   I stay away from stores,  both brick and mortar and online varieties.  I choose not to subject myself to the bargain hunting masses  resembling crocodiles  at feeding time,  but with firearms.   Not even for the  free gun  giveaways at Cabela’s,  though I expect shoppers there to behave better than these men arguing over  a toy  car.   I will also not be among  the millions  in my pajamas searching for deals on Cyber Monday.

This decision means I don’t have to care about the Amazon workers in Germany and Italy  striking on  Black Friday,  or the  universal chaos  the event causes in the industrialized world.   Nor do I have to contemplate how to sneak in early by wearing what  appears to  be store employee uniforms.  I have long known that holiday shopping is the  make or break event for most retailers,  but since I have finished my shopping,  I can simply  contemplate how  stores are trying to draw Amazon customers,  be ready to take advantage of anything spectacular,  and be very pleased that I am not inside a store being tracked  by facial  recognition software.

To those of you who survived Black Friday,  congratulations!   For those who selected the comforts of home over survival,  welcome to the anti-frantic shopping club.  I’m going to reheat some turkey and dressing,  make some breakfast bread with leftover cranberry sauce,  and trim my pepper plants so I can fit them all inside my front hall.   That and revel in the fact that last year’s record-setting number of  background requests  for guns to the FBI has been broken by the more than 200,000 requests made this year  — some of you have truly woken up!

I had never heard of half of these  defunct restaurant  chains,  even though I’m fairly well traveled.  How about you?

Thanksgiving 2017…

leave a comment »

If I were as big a liar as Barack Obama,  I would probably be sorely afraid of God’s judgment too,  which may be why he for eight years sought to portray Thanksgiving as a  harvest festival,  unlike Donald Trump who bluntly said God should be thanked,  and displayed a  touch of  humor.  That is in contrast to the popular media memes which commercialize the holiday for profit while removing any hint  of religiosity from the occasion.

You might hear a little about the Pilgrims,  and most of it will be the Left whining on about the  evil Pilgrims  who brought death and destruction to the Native Americans.   Chuck Norris offers a more  balanced view  of them,  as does Jerry Newcombe,  here.

You can brush off the various lefty groups intent on telling you the proper way to  celebrate,  or you can choose to be as  childish  and hateful as the media is.  You can look up how Thanksgiving was when you  were born.  You can acknowledge the reality that much of the world still regards the USA as a  place of hope  and promise.

You can be entertained by Debby Witt’s always entertaining  collections  of Thanksgiving-related links.   You can be lazy and pick a quote for the occasion from  this collection.

Wherever you are,  and however you choose to celebrate, find something to be thankful for,  recite it,  appreciate it,  share it and keep it in your heart throughout the holidays.  Remember Yuval  Levin’s words:  “Conservatism is gratitude.”   What Marc Thiessen is  thankful for  proves it.   George Washington viewed the practice of gratitude  as essential  to the American character.   Despite al the gloom and disaster, Kurt Schlichter has found  seven things  conservatives should be thankful for.

P.S.  There are now some  fascinating tomes  on the Pilgrims and their dealings with the Native Americans.

One more devil…

…in hell.   Or you can think of it as ding-dong the witch is dead 2.0.  However you regard it,  one can only be glad that monster Charles Manson is dead.   Unless you’re the New York Times or Newsweek,  both of whom  tried to tie  Manson and Pres. Trump together in terms of cults and personality without explicitly claiming they acted alike.

For those of you too young to remember,  here is a  handy guide  to Manson’s monstrosities.   Personally,  I don’t believe Manson or any of his addled devotees should have been allowed to live,  and none of them should ever enjoy another breath of fresh air again,  but California has long been run by fools and Gov. Moonbeam will get another crack at releasing some  of them before he leaves office.

For  now,  I leave you with the excellent rendering from Terrell AfterMath,  here.

Hillary’s smart?

leave a comment »

Once upon a time she had some intellectual firepower,  but the rottenness of her character has destroyed her gray cells at an alarming rate.   I don’t use Twitter,  I don’t follow anyone on it,  even though I can compress a thought into the small amount of space it allows,  but even I know that her praise for   her husband for not being on Twitter while President is idiotic,  because Twitter didn’t exist until about a decade after she and Slick Willie  left the White House.

That should tell you just how stupid and inattentive she thinks We the People are.   that means you,  chump.
