Sue Grafton, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

Sue Grafton was a Louisville girl who  made it good,  big time,  but she appears to have remained an incredibly nice human being despite her fame as an author of spy/mystery novels.

She is best known for her series featuring investigator Kinsey Millhone,  with each book featuring a letter of the alphabet,  with the first published in 1982,  and the “Y” novel released just this past August.   How sad there will be no “Z” volume.   She wrote well while weaving interesting tales.   She will be missed.

Melania blamed for tree removal…

leave a comment »

The historic Jackson magnolia tree at the White house has been in pitiful shape for decades.   Held upright by cabling rather than its own strength,  it has long been an accident waiting to happen, so the First Lady has prudently decided to  have it cut  down,  and the wood preserved.

Most of the media is  reporting in  such a fashion as to make it seem Melania Trump is having the tree removed without any reason.  Since most of the media live in places where they either manage a few flowerpots or have gardeners, I can’t imagine why anyone would take their word for arborist matters.

For 9 years…

…Al Gore has  been predicting  that the North Pole would be ice-free by now.   It still has plenty of ice,  thank you very much.

Gore’s “true planetary emergency” turned out to be total B.S.,  just like most of his unscientific movie and all the other garbage the climate hysterics try to pass off as real science.   No word on how he plans to explain the nation being plunged into  deep freeze  mode next week,  but his fellow  hysterics are  formulating an explanation.

My guess is he will fall in line with the Weather Channel’s  “explanation” that “climate”  isn’t  “weather”  and that a warming climate can still have cold snaps.  Quite true,  but there is not a shred of scientific evidence that global warming is underway,  a fact none of them ever address,  for obvious reasons.

Tabasco opera?

leave a comment »

An obscure  opera is  being dragged out of the history closet and put on once again,  and yes,  it is about Tabasco.   The McIlhenny Company didn’t actually have anything to do with the 1894 production,  though it took advantage of the opportunity.   This time around it is using the show to kick off its birthday celebration.   As a great fan of Tabasco sauce,  I hope the opera is a huge hit.

Queen Sheila forever…

leave a comment »

If you thought I was outright lying about Rep. Sheila Jackson-Lee’s long history of being an entitled annoyance to the universe at large,  and service workers in  particular,   feast  your eyes  on  these links, and do remember that the woman whose seat she stole is a lifelong  human rights activist!

Rep. Jackson-Lee has never been interested in anybody but herself, and if she thought she could get away with wearing a coronet instead of having her hair braided into one,  she would.   Like Barack Obama,  she tends to tilt her head so she is literally looking down her nose at the rest of us,  and the action is as unattractive on her as it is on the former president,  and also like him,  she is an  utter hypocrite  about her beliefs and policies.   The only picture of her I’d really enjoy seeing is one of her after she is defeated in her next election,  but the poor souls who vote for her dont know any better,  and Queen Sheila works hard to keep them uneducated,  ignorant and easily led.   I feel quite sorry for them, as I’m sure most of those in the 18th District of Texas,  even if they are Democrats,  deserve a hell of a lot better than they have gotten from her since 1995.

The Bennett hypothesis…

leave a comment »

When he served as Reagan’s Secretary of Education in 1987,  Bill Bennett advanced the argument that government student aid had a lot to do with the constant increase in the cost of higher education.   Numerous studies have  proven him  right.

Government aid has also encouraged colleges to offer courses and degrees in idiot things.   Yes, underwater basket weaving was a thing.   Pissed-off lesbian theory is still a thing.  So-called higher education is where a lot of the liberal freaks from the 60s and 70s went and they have taught generations of students to be as disaffected,  disconnected,  illogical and super-sensitive as they are.   They have meltdowns because someone dares disagree with their uniformed world view, or because they don’t feel they should be expected to cope with classwork and laundry and life.

I love knowing that my young cousins and friends will be competing with these snowflakes for jobs in the real world,  and my kith and kin not only won’t be burdened by thousands of dollars in student loans,  they will also have some work experience under their belts.

Queen Sheila…

United Airlines  has apologized  to the customer whose seat they gave away to Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee,  who is always high on the list of the most unpleasant people on the planet.  But not even a $500 travel voucher to the passenger is sufficient to make up for the airline’s cowardice in the face of the arrogance and greed of the  Congressional battleaxe.

Of course the only airline ever to stand up to Lee’s  repeated bad  behavior no longer exists,  making the rest especially wary.  The woman is a characterless clump of dumb,  but she does wield real power,  despite blaming the current situation,  entirely of her own making,  on racism.  Shame on her constituents who keep voting her back into office instead of throwing her ass to the curb where it belongs.
