Arizona speech…
His Oneness gave an excellent speech, which you can read the text of here. He did deviate from the script by remarking that Rep. Giffords had opened her eyes shortly after he visited, which struck me as a bit of credit-grabbing after he repeated it several times. Obama even delivered the remarks in a far better manner than he has habitually done since becoming president.
This was a memorial service, and it had a bit of pep-rally feel which I found a little jarring, but it was in no way comparable to the campaign-rally hysteria of the service a few years ago for Sen. Paul Wellstone, even though a chunk of the administration came.
He delivered an extremely subtle rebuke to the Left, and obviously didn’t tell his administration to adopt the new tone, since Secretary of State Hillary! remains on the previous page. It also struck me as a tad ironic that the thin-skinned man who snipes at people weekly is now telling everyone to play nice. We’ll see how long that lasts. It’s what someone does that really matters — actions versus words.
Yeah, I believe we can do better, but it’s unrealistic to expect those left of center to go cold turkey on their shrieks and rants. They are so habituated to thinking emotionally that they are no longer capable of reasoned argument.
