Peaceably to assemble…
Neither Gov. Andrew Cuomo nor his brother, Chris, a CNN talking head, have ever struck me as overly gifted in the intelligence department. Chris huffed on his live show this week “…And please, show me where it says protesters are supposed to be polite and peaceful….” You’d think that having an undergraduate degree from Fordham University, and a law degree from Yale might have exposed Mr. Cuomo to the First Amendment, the one his job relies upon.
But Chris Cuomo is a progressive, and words mean exactly what they want them to mean when they want them to mean that – until they don’t. Yes, that is rather confusing, isn’t it? When they can’t trick the words into becoming other words, they demand people accept their usage of words, then they ignore it, and finally they just lie.
He may have had to take the bar exam multiple times to pass it, even in Arkansas, but he is technically a lawyer, so he has no excuse for making such an idiotic statement which he knew to be untrue on all counts. But that’s exactly how progressives do it, folks.
No right to lie…
Did you know the First Amendment does not give you the right to lie? That’s what Democratic operative Donna Brazile said on The Five this past Wednesday. It elicited hearty laughter from the rest of the ensemble, since politicians lie for a living, don’t they? In fact, the former Democratic National Committee chairwoman was merely repeating her belief that if you disagree with her you must be silenced. That viewpoint enables her and others of her ilk to willfully and deliberately misinterpret the First Amendment, the entire Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and every other word ever written. If ever they acknowledge that words have discreet and particular meanings, their worldview, their bulwark against reality, would crumble into dust and them along with it.
When is public not public?
The 11th Circuit court generally displays some judicial restraint and common sense, unlike the lunatics on the 9th Circuit, but three of the justices appear to have misplaced their tiny little brains by declaring that public streets and sidewalks are not public spaces sometimes.
Free Speech Day 2015…
I neglected to highlight this day this year, so I wish to make up for the lapse now. You can’t do better than to read the National Review editorial from last year. If you’re short on time, remember that free speech is a citizen’s weapon against tyranny, and just like those who would disarm you, those who would take away your right to speak are planning on doing something which would require a free man to speak. That’s why this case is so important.
Reid, meet petard…
Petard is a 16th Century French word for a small bomb used to blow up gates and walls when breaching fortifications, and if someone is hoist with his own petard, he has blown himself up with his own bomb.
That is essentially what happened to Sen. Harry Reid this week when Republicans voted to advance to the Senate floor a Democratic constitutional amendment allowing Congress to regulate all campaign speech and spending. Reid actually admitted he never intended for the amendment to go to a real floor debate, expecting the opposition to vote against advancement and leave the floor open for debates on things like pay equality and minimum wage to frame the coming elections for Democrats. Now there will be scant time for anything else as they defend their Senate majority, since the move guarantees a lengthy debate over Democratic efforts to limit the First Amendment.
TSA bullies…
If you’re one of the unlucky souls who must fly this week, heed the threats of TSA. If I were flying, I’d do it, but fortunately, I have to drive less than 60 miles.
Add to that the protests at various airports, and there is no way I’d get on a plane. I hope labor unions infuriate every traveler.
First Amendment not applicable…
This is what Democrats think of your First Amendment rights.
