Returning the future…
…to the individuals who should own it. That is what the decisive defeat of the British Labour party strongly suggests to me, and I regard it as a good omen for our future. Richard Fernandez, writing for the Belmont Club, lays it out in very readable fashion here.
You should not be surprised that Labour is screeching “Russia! Trump! Putin!” and acting like our progressives do. I mean, really, they are the same snobbish elites, just with British accents. They think the ordinary man is an idiot who must be told by his betters how to live, what to eat, and reminded daily they exist only because of the vast forbearance of their global masters. Love him or hate him, Donald J. Trump has released a wild strain of individualism into the universe and it appears to be contagious, as well as strong enough to withstand the myriad of lies thrown at it constantly by elites and the media.
Peggy Grande terms the UK election result as the final nail in the coffin of the globalist experiment, and I think she may be correct.
More cheese, please…
If you like dairy products, this is a great time to buy them, because we have a surfeit of cheese and butter, courtesy of a strong dollar and Russia’s embargo against the EU which made European producers target Asia and the Middle East, where American products generally sell.
I have always used real butter instead of the nomination called margarine, because butter tastes so much better, and a little goes a long way. For much the same reasons, I also prefer real cheese to “cheese products”, though I confess some of the latter can be very useful in a pinch.
Europe’s year from hell…
…isn’t quite over yet, with refugees still pouring over the non-borders, and next year bids fair to be even worse with Britain contemplating departure from the European Union.
Let’s face it — the EU was an awful idea, so bad it could have been dreamed up only by the over-educated, over-paid snobby elites who run the EU. Like His Oneness, because they have for so long been protected from the consequences of reality, they are now so divorced from reality that they have come to believe wishing will make it so.
The former nations which make up the EU are much less diverse than America. They have distinct characters and cultures, despite the relentless sameness imagined and imposed by the Brussels bunch, which has been determined to make them all as poor and dysfunctional as Greece. The EU has never worked, and it was never going to work, just like ObamaCare, and it will end as a huge failed social experiment which ignored history and human nature, and wasted billions of dollars. It is too much to hope that our own progressives and Leftists will learn a damned thing from it all.
Philae update…
Oops! After a bounce on a flat surface, Philae finally landed on a rocky, uneven surface in partial shadow, which will prevent its solar panels from recharging its batteries as planned. That has necessitated a redesign of plans for the little lander that could.
Are we as smart as the Swiss?
Democrats certainly aren’t. The Swiss have no minimum wage and don’t think they need one. They also declined to join the European Union, or adopt the euro as their currency. It remains to be seen if we have the bottom to withstand American versions of such bad ideas.
Don’t you know…
His Oneness wishes he could do this to all of us who don’t worship him?
If you don’t know Neil Farage, watch this as an introduction.
Greece saved?
Not really, as Andrew Stuttaford points out by giving you meaty snippets from others. Veronique de Rugy gets into some of the specifics. Joe Weisenthal shows what a crock it all is.
Germany’s EU bailout…
Germans are probably as pissed off about having to bail out the EU as most Americans have been about the bailouts here.
EU whiners…
The EU bureaucrats are threatening to strike if they are forced to work 40 hours a week. The poor babies…
