Bad news first…

There has been a  strain  of stem rust  busily turning fields of wheat black since 1998.

On the other hand,  scientists claim  they are closer to producing so-called  “super varieties”  of wheat which will be able to withstand the virulent fungus.   Of course they produced a variety in the 1970’s which was resistant to the rust strains on the loose then,  so moderate your joy with a view towards the long march.
