Washington Monument…
…will reopen in September, after a three-year closure due to issues with its antiquated elevator system. The scheduled spring open was delayed by the construction of a new security screening facility for visitors. I have climbed all 898 steps to the top twice, so I have no personal experience of the elevator system, but some of my friends and family do and all agreed it was a creaky old mess. What a pity that terrorism makes the screening facility necessary, but at least it won’t be staffed by the TSA.
How bizarre…
This is what the White House put out on social media to celebrate Easter. I certainly didn’t imagine for an instant His Oneness would acknowledge the religiosity of the occasion, but Obama and the Easter Bunny looking at the Washington Monument? Does he know that George Washington was a religious man who prayed to God in the Christian tradition? this is just off-the-wall odd.
Perhaps there was a hidden message in His Oneness being buzzed by bees while he was reading “Where the Wild Things Are” to children at the White House Easter Egg Roll.
Monument shrinks…
The Washington Monument may be 10 inches shorter than it was in 1884, depending on whether you believe the modern surveying methods. We are assured by the National Geodetic Survey the shrinkage has nothing to do with the 2011 earthquake. How strange no one thought to mention that the District of Columbia is built on a damned swamp. Is there a connection between the monument shrinking and Washington expanding?
Washington Monument sinking?
Perhaps, and it may be due to the earthquake. But will it end up like Pisa’s tower?
