Yosemite firefall 2019…

leave a comment »

I have been lucky enough to see the very strange natural phenomenon known  as ‘firefall’ at Horsetail Fall in Yosemite National Park,  but the report on  this year’s  solar event makes it sound like it has become more trouble than it’s worth.   That is certainly a great pity,  because seeing what looks like a vertical river of fire falling down a cliff face is a stunning spectacle.

Partial lunar eclipse…

with 3 comments

A  partial lunar  eclipse is happening this afternoon,  so if you live in one of the places where it can be seen,  you can use this event as a prelude to the total solar eclipse in a couple of weeks.

UPDATE:  We have  some photos  in,  taken from some of the places offering really fine views of the event.
