NOLA levees sinking…

New Orleans haas no high ground, just a bit that is higher than the rest of it.  Why did they rebuild the levees to protect the Ninth Ward?  It and several other areas should have been left outside the zone.   They were largely uninhabited  after Hurricane Katrina anyway.  The soil in the area makes crunchy peanut butter seem tough.   The whole place is a sloppy mess,  but the idiots who run the federal government spent $14 billion putting all  the barriers in,  finishing the last of the work less than a year ago.   And now the Army Corps of Engineers tells us that the whole damned system is failing even faster than expected.   Gee,  I am so surprised…

Dirt against disaster…

This is part  of what’s going on as the floods come.  The good thing about tornadoes is that once they’re past you,  they’re gone, but your efforts against them are over when they arrive.

With floods,  if you have the determination and some resources,  you try to fight them off,  as these people are attempting.  Generally your efforts fail,  but you have a cruel kind of hope that they won’t.    Even after the water is gone,  you’re left with snakes and mud and debris,  and a nasty assortment of molds,   some of which are as dangerous as the damned floods.
