under They Don’t Make ‘Em Like This Any More. John Fairfax was a bit of an anachronism even in his youth, but he was forever an adventurer and a daring, even reckless rascal. But no matter what, he was the first to row across each of the two oceans he tackled, and it doesn’t matter that he rowed only 3 or 4 hours a day, being smart enough to benefit from prevailing winds and currents.
Can you imagine any of today’s feminized metrosexuals apprenticing themselves to a pirate? You might find the odd SEAL or Green Beret or Ranger who might do it, but not the ordinary folk who are most of the population.
