American blogger hacked to death…

leave a comment »

Avijit Roy,  a Bangladesh-born U.S. citizen and a  prominent blogger known for speaking out against religious extremism was hacked to death as he walked through Bangladesh’s capital with his wife,  Rafida Ahmed, who was seriously injured.   They were walking on a crowded sidewalk, returning from a book fair at Dhaka University.

A previously unknown militant group,  Ansar Bangla 7,  has claimed responsibility for the attack.   This is  the latest  in a series of attacks on secular writers in Bangladesh in recent years.   Even Hindus are not safe from militant Islam.

UPDATE:  “Religious extremism is a virus.”   That’s the  sort of truth Avijit Roy used.
