Space invaders!
Hubble has found them, or at least what looks like an alien from the 1978 video game classic Space Invaders.

I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions, but whatever it is, it’s quite beautiful. Thanks to Hubble for capturing the remarkable image.
And here’s another image to ponder, on Earth, but possibly not of this world.
After which, you may need a really, really hefty brew.

Since this will be an ugly week in politics, which I predict will be made no better by Obama’s speech to Congress, I thought I’d throw in some beauty. These are pictures from the newly refurbished Hubble telescope showing us wonders from space.
Enjoy after watching His Oneness perform — you’ll need something to act as an antidote.
Shuttle in the sun…
This is a stunning photograph. It was taken in Florida by an amateur astronomer, Thierry Legault, an engineer already famed for his pictures of space shot from his yard in Paris.
It also happens to be the first ever image of a solar transit of a space shuttle and Hubble Space Telescope. It’s hard to realize that Hubble is 19 years old, and that this probably really will be its last repair.
