Former US comptroller David Walker said this at the first of the year, and the hole just keeps getting deeper.
The outrage in Congress, certainly manufactured on Rep. Barney Frank’s part, over the AIG bonus payout is just a misdirection. Congress want public anger focuses on AIG, not itself. Both politicians and regulators should be targets, for promoting AIG’s downfall by ousting former CEO Hank Greenberg, for failing to supervise its bets, and then for blowing a mountain of taxpayer cash on their AIG nationalization.
You might let your Congress critters know that.
