The oldest telescope?
This little tin tube doesn’t look like much, but Dutch archaeologists working in the city of Delft say that once cleaned up, it proved to be a primitive telescope, capable of magnifying objects up to five times. Likely a gadget owned by a wealthy citizen, its is thought to be from the early 17th Century, as by 1650 tin was no longer used for such items, and much better lenses were available.
Free speech still breathes…
This is some at least partially good news for Geert Wilders in his trial in Holland. There is also still plenty of bad tidings, though I should note Daniel Pipes is more optimistic.
But don’t be lulled into thinking free speech as it should be still actually exists in The Netherlands — it is certainly being strangled to death in Europe.

Geert Wilders is a very brave man. Holland, like much of the West, has become insanely stupid with regard to individual free-speech rights. And if you think those rights are safe here at home, wake up!
