Dissing debt discussions…
The New York Times whines that Republicans are throwing a temper tantrum, which fits nicely with top Dems declaring them to be crybabies when the last Republicans departed the debt talks.
Speaker Boehner put a tactical boot in the bony rear of His Oneness, and was smoothly seconded by Sen. Jim DeMint, and that has prompted a response of sorts from the White House.
The real headline should be that Democrats want the same thing they wanted and couldn’t get when they controlled the entire Congress — to raise taxes and — by as much as $400 billion — and to increase spending. After all, Treasury Secretary Geithner told the House Small Business Committee on Wednesday that the Obama administration believes taxes on small business must increase so the administration does not have to “shrink the overall size of government programs.”
You’re paying for Greece…
Sen. Jim DeMint has a stunning piece in the Daily Caller about the 17% of the International Monetary Fund which is funded by American taxpayers. Had the Senate passed DeMint’s amendment a year ago, the IMF wouldn’t be allowed to use our money to bail out Greece and foreign bankers.
Andrew Stuttaford disagrees, finding IMF’s survival critical to the global economy. Michael Franc and Heritage Foundation’s J. D. Foster don’t concur.
By my lights, the IMF is just another in a long list of “international” and “global” agencies and groups which exist to serve the well-connected people and governments, and at best only adds to the economic misery of their citizens.
