In 1847, the Choctaw nation sent $170 to the victims of the Irish potato famine, despite enduring considerable hardships itself. In 2017, Choctaw and Irish dancers celebrated the dedication ceremony for a statue commemorating the event. Now there is an online fundraiser benefiting the Navajo Nation and Hopi Reservation, which has raised more than $2.5 million for water, food and health supplies. Irish donors have contributed around half a million dollars, and many donors have specifically mentioned the 1847 donation. Favors live on so long as people remember them and maintain the same spirit which gave birth to them.
