Education refund…
Steve Hilton on his FOX News show, “The Next Revolution”, suggested that if schools remain closed in the fall, parents should receive education tax tax dollar refunds. I think that is a splendid idea and should be carried out immediately. In light of shakedowns by groups such as the LA teachers union, which recently released a research paper on steps needed to safely reopen public schools amid the COVID-19 outbreak and pointed to the need to free up additional funding by defunding the police and charter schools and putting that money towards helping communities, not to mention a federal Medicare-for-all program. It prattles on about being concerned for the safety of students and communities, but if that was truly your concern, why would you refuse to do your jobs unless your demands were met before you did your jobs? And hasn’t $150 million already been cut from the police to be given to disadvantaged communities?
Here is my idea: If you live in an area which has been damaged by rioting, looting, vandalism, collect like-minded folks and start filing lawsuits against the municipalities and governments which not only allowed, but also encouraged and welcomed the lawlessness. They don’t care about you or the area, so ignore their moans of “You’re hurting the city, or the police, or teachers, etc.” And if you’re brave enough, figure out how much of your tax bill goes to various departments and pay only that portion of your tax bill which represents the services you like and the departments which actually perform their assigned duties. Say you are not refusing to pay, but are suspending payment until the services are actually provided, etc. Most cities don’t have enough inflow from taxes and fines to keep themselves afloat for more than a month or two. Disrupt that cash flow and there is panic, threats, then crash and burn.
Do I believe any of this will happen? No, but isn’t it a lovely thought?
