Mobile phones…
I always assumed somebody thought it would be useful to have a phone you could travel with, but who knew anyone was trialing a car phone in 1920?
Food stamp president…
After whining that he isn’t the food-stamp president when Newt Gingrich tagged him as such, he said in his interview with Diane Sawyer that he didn’t give out food stamps and it was (that evil, nasty) George W. Bush who made more people eligible for them. But now we find that His Oneness is offering $75,000 grants for those devising creative methods to sign more people up for food stamps.
This shouldn’t surprise anyone. If enough people are dependent upon your government for survival, and convinced they owe you their votes because of it, you get re-elected. Remember all the Iraqis who showed their ration cards to the camera as they went in to cast their ballots for Saddam Hussein? Would there be any difference?
