Page program pulled…
Alas, impressionable youngsters like Monica Lewinsky will no longer have a presidential knee pad career path to internship, though I’m astonished that Minority Leader Pelosi agreed with Speaker Boehner that the congressional page program should be killed.
Hey, you save $5 million here and there, and pretty soon it might add up to real money.
Downgrade blame…
I didn’t listen to His Oneness on Monday, but I’m unsurprised that Brian Bolduc did and found him, as ever, blaming others for his own heavy hand of failure, while simultaneously claiming it on an S&P math error. Not even the Washington Post’s Dana Milbank, a reliable cheerleader for Obama, found the speech wanting.
The Democrats’ talking point this weekend was to call this a Tea Party downgrade. Considering that recent Gallup polls show that the percentage of Americans who expressly state that they are supporters of the Tea Party movement is currently about as large at 22% of the population as the 21% who say they are liberal, Ed Morrissey is likely correct that there will be blowback on the Dems. Michael Walsh views the attack on the Tea Party as testing for Obama’s re-election campaign, so it’s significant, even if John Hinderaker says they can’t sell it. Rick Santelli defends the Tea Party here.
By the way, after His Oneness gave his I’m-not-responsible-speech, the stock market went from 400 to 600 points down. Perhaps it knew more downgrades were coming?
Was George Soros the man who bet that downgrades were coming?
