Stewart/Colbert rally…
I didn’t watch a second of it, but here’s what others thought, starting with the Associated Press, here. If you want some sights and sounds, Politico has some best and worst clips. Or try a different look from ReasonTV.
As the Wall Street Journal points out, the two stars are always masters of ambivalence, and historically both claim to be just comedians when they get whacked for politics. PowerLine could take only so much of the event. I find it curious that this free-wheeling event for the young and hip strictly prohibited unapproved filming, and that Democrats were recruiting at what both Stewart and Colbert claimed was a totally non-political event.
Few news reports even mentioned these signs, or mentioned Cat Stevens’ eagerness to facilitate the fatwa against author Salman Rushdie. Jillian Bandes found it hilarious and heartbreaking, while some Politico writers admit the event created no wave for panicked Democrats to ride to victory. There is general agreement that everyone had a good time, even if they couldn’t hear. But if you’re hip and cool, self-congratulation is the ticket regardless of acoustics.
