One Nation rally…

I find it highly amusing that the One Nation Working Together website has  this photo as its first page,  leading the unwary to believe it was a well-attended event.   Plenty of  lefty bloggers gushed with enthusiasm over the  totally fictional numbers.

But over at The Corner,  Daniel Foster posted Verum Serum’s  comparative photos from the One Nation rally versus Glenn Beck’s 8/28 rally,   so you can see for yourself the lie.   Or look at the side-by-side shots from Lucianne.com

Byron York astutely calls it  “a unionized show of unity”,  which it certainly was,  as evidenced by the different colored T-shirts and caps worn by  members of various unions,  some of whom  were forced to attend.  In another column

York shows the  lifelessness of the function.  Check this video (h/t Veronique de Rugy) for the flavor of the event.   And no,  they didn’t pick up their own trash.

Politics and corruption…

The  Alabama gambling scheme sounds bad,  and probably is,  but it’s only the tip of the iceberg.   Corruption is widespread in this country, and politics is always at the intersection.   The best way to stop the corruption is to make the government less powerful,  and thereby,  the politicians less powerful.

I don’t know any of the people involved,  but I can tell you that the Democratic candidate for governor of Alabama is currently the state’s Agriculture Commissioner,  and as a friend showed me,  the monthly ag newsletter is little more than one long advertisement for him.

This story plays out at every level of government, and it doesn’t take long to figure out that you’re safer if you’re a crook inside the government.  Look at how long the crooks who ran Bell,  CA got away with their obscene salaries and benefits.  Hell,  look at the members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and what we already have proof they’re guilty of.  Former congressman Jefferson tried to use his power of office to avoid prosecution over the little matter of the horde of cold cash in his freezer.  The list would be very long if it were made.

Let’s take away the money and power from politicians and government and put it at a local level where there are more eyes to watch,  more mouths to speak out.
