Detroit shrinking…
I saw a piece on tv recently about Detroit’s plan to demolish its abandoned properties, creating green space within the city for parks and gardens. I couldn’t quite believe the figure of 100,000 vacant properties used in the program, but it was apparently correct according to this.
I wish Mayor Dave Bing good luck with his plan to “right-size” Detroit, or reconfigure the city to reflect its shrinking population. It remains to be seen if he can resist the high-tax, anti-business regimes of so many of his predecessors, which drove people and businesses from the city. The program said little about the stupidity of politicians which put a once-thriving metropolis on life-support status. That might have led to comparisons with New York, and other cities being led equally badly, wouldn’t it?
