Obama and Lincoln…
Obama wants us to study Lincoln.
Yes, we should, for an historical example of how to claim one thing, and do quite another. Lincoln freed the slaves! The only slaves the Emancipation Proclamation freed were in the states which had seceded from the Union, over which Lincoln held no authority.
In his speech on Lincoln’s birthday, His Oneness said Lincoln sought no revenge and insisted no Confederate troops be punished. Do you know who owned the land which is now Arlington National Cemetary? Gen. Robert E. Lee, who didn’t relinquish it voluntarily — it was seized by the Federal Government.
His Oneness also claimed Lincoln valued national unity above all else. Actually, Lincoln had a setup similar to that of Great Britain with the colonies. He much preferred dealing wish a weak, agrarian South with no choice but to provide cheap raw materials to the industrializing North. The North could manufacture finished products to sell back to the South at much higher prices. For many, many years, railroad rates were higher South to North than vice versa.
You didn’t learn any of this in your history classes? Of course not — history is generally written by the winners. But some of the losers have very long memories.
