Still honored…

A British man has faithfully tended the memorial to the crew of the B-17 nicknamed “Mi Amigo,”  which crashed in the woods rather than land in  a Sheffield park where children were playing.

Tony Foulds was one of the children saved by the deliberate sacrifice of the U.S. crew  —  thus his devotion,  which is now  being recognized,  Thank you,  Mr. Foulds.

Jean Watters, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

Say a little prayer for Jean Watters.   I doubt this good lady will need it,  but  it can’t hurt.   The Enigma code breakers were quite serious about their work,  and remained tight-lipped about it even after it was declassified in 1975.   One of them has  been buried  in Nebraska where she retired to with her American husband.   Jean Watters contributed greatly to the Allied war effort,  but never felt the need to brag about her valuable work.

Raymond Haerry, R.I.P.

Mr. Haerry ran away from home and  ended up  on the USS Arizona,  right in the middle of history.   He was one of only six known living survivors. Living through Pearl Harbor and World War II to die at age 94 looks like total victory to me.

Hitler nuclear arsenal found?

The Nazis were thought to have a nuclear device,  and this German engineer  believes he has  found it.   I suppose we’ll find out in due course if he is correct.

USS Indianapolis located?

leave a comment »

Given the way history has been taught for the last few decades,  few of you will know that the USS Indianapolis had  been on  a top secret mission to deliver parts of an atomic bomb in July 1945,  when it was hit by a Japanese torpedo in the Pacific Ocean.   The survivors were left to be eaten by the sharks.   A number of searches have been mounted without success,  but now a naval historian has discovered some fresh information which may make it possible to locate the vessel.

Elie Wiesel, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

Holocaust survivor and Nobel Peace Prize winner Elie Wiesel has died.   He spent his life  bearing witness  for the millions of Jews slaughtered in World War II,  a most eloquent teller of truth.

UP)DATE:    Hillary Clinton’s associate’s  hateful tweet  celebrating Wiesel’s death is emblematic of the Clinton campaign,  and Wiesel himself was and remains the proper antidote to it.

617 Squadron…

leave a comment »

The modern day 617 squadron has  recreated iconic  pictures from World War II of the original squad known as the Dam-busters for their dangerous attacks on dams in Germany.   Their heroics disrupted production for the war effort in Germany,  and no doubt shortened the war considerably.
