Very good news…
I’m always cheered by news of bad guys blowing themselves up while trying to produce an IED to blow up other people. Even better, they were using a mosque in southeastern Ghazni province in Afghanistan.
Another Obama success…
This has been overshadowed by the Iran deal, but let’s give His Oneness credit for this new development — the Taliban has cemented its relationship with the al-Qaeda terror network. Apparently, His Oneness claiming that al-Qaeda was decimated was not sufficient to actually decimate it. What a surprise!
We will now see if his declarations about the Iran deal prove any more powerful…
The cave dwellers of Bamiyan…
When the Taliban captured Bamiyan, Afghanistan, in the 1990’s they destroyed the homes of the mostly Shia population. In 2001 they destroyed the statues of Buddha carved into the sandstone there by monks who also fashioned a number of caves in the are for meditation and retreat. Many of the families who lost their homes in the initial invasion now live in those caves, and there is conflict between them and government officials who are trying to rebuild the smaller Buddha and restore tourism to the area, including the caves which these poor families have adapted to their use, having nowhere else to survive.
The peaceful religion…
This group of Muslims planned to blow up the London Stock Exchange. Honor killings are part of the same religious belief system, too.
While we’re on the subject of radical Islam, it’s apparently news that the Taliban wants to take over Afghanistan after we leave, something His Oneness can’t wait to assist them with by ending combat operations. Pakistan is as usual denying anything to do with any and all of it. Obama is also wanting to transfer more Taliban fighters from Gitmo to Qatar. Obviously ending only a single war without achieving victory wasn’t enough.
And AEI reports that the Taliban reconciliation among its various elements in Pakistan is less than the unification which has been so widely reported.
Dehydrating on the Taliban…
Toby Harnden gives a well-balanced view of the Marines urinating on presumably Taliban corpses. Bill Kristol provides some history of the practice and mocks the Administration’s over-reaction. But Rep. Allen West has the best response of all to the media caterwauling.
New excuses by Islamists…
Mr. Weisman details the jihadists’ latest excuses for terrorism.
Meanwhile, it appears that His Oneness is trying to arrange a negotiated peace settlement with the Taliban.
Times Square bomb…
A T-shirt vendor noticed the smoke first. The Pakistani Taliban are claiming credit for the bomb. Stewart Baker wants to know where the cameras are (h/t K-Lo at The Corner) showing us the perpetrator getting out of the parked vehicle. So far all we have is a suspicious looking man in an alley.
And K-Lo checks in with Matt Mayer on Homeland Security. If you haven’t read the book she mentions, please do so — it explains a lot about what’s wrong with DHS, and do remember that DHS was the Democrats’ grand idea. It should surprise no one that it is too big and bureaucratic to do a decent job of anything.
Will this be sufficient to convince His Oneness not to try KSM in New York? Don’t count on it. We’re already getting the by now customary Obama Administration spin of single actor, amateur, etc. One hopes having His Oneness keep painting a new bull’s-eye on them will get New Yorkers back on the phones and in their Congress critters offices.
