Omnibus idiocy…

If Steven Hayward can’t keep up with all the Democratic insanity over trump,  then you certainly can’t expect me to,  either.   I therefore offer you Mr. Hayward’s  view of the  last week,  and warn you that some of it is damned funny.

Unions benefit you…

leave a comment »

By having your  taxes raised — oh wait,  that doesn’t exactly help you out,  does it?   Let Ann Coulter explain.

Okay,  don’t you want to know how federal programs and services would be affected if there’s a government shutdown?   Well the country’s biggest  federal workers union is taking the Obama administration to court for just that reason.   Except that the  American Federation of Government Employees is actually setting up to protest that not paying their members on time would be involuntary servitude and a violation of the Thirteenth Amendment.   While we’re on unions,  read the Barbara Comstock piece on Virginia’s legislative action on collective bargaining.

And since we’re talking shutdown,  Steven Hayward doesn’t think it will accrue to the  Democrats’ benefit as the last one did.   I don’t think it helps the Democrats’ cause when both His Oneness and his doltish VP keep using  mythical math and smoke and mirrors,  while the rest of the Democrats just keep lying about all the numbers.  Raise-the-debt-ceiling-or-we’ll-default Geithner is not having much luck  scaring people to death,  either.  Nor is the puerile  temper tantrum Harry Reid threw on the Senate floor Wednesday over the new Continuing Resolution sent up.

More Libya…

leave a comment »

The first thing I hear on the news this morning is that NATO is delaying taking over the Libya operation,  less than 12 hours after His Oneness assured us NATO would assume control Wednesday.    Don’t you just love the smell of disaster in the morning?

As Robert Stacy McCain  puts it,  we know Libya is a really bad idea because Sen. John Kerry favors it.   Toby Harnden found the speech as  lacking in clarity as I did.    Praveen Swami worries that other despots will take from this adventure the fact that Gaddafi gave up his nuclear and chemical weaponry ambitions.  Even NBC’s Jim Maceda said Gaddafi must be  feeling better since His Oneness didn’t call for actual regime change.

AP  fact-checked the speech.   The score wasn’t pretty.  The Washington Times landed a solid punch with  its editorial.   Paul Kengor gives us an  intelligence nugget from the Reagan era which was new to me.  Today would certainly be different if Gaddafi had been assassinated then.  Steven Hayward  focused on the style of the speech,  and  the comments below point out other annoyances.

Marc Thiessen found it  fundamentally dishonest, while even The New Republic,  in the course of praising the emperor,  had some questions.  Many were  unimpressed.

Jonah Goldberg’s  basketball analogies for Obama’s actions on Libya holds up nicely after the speech.
