John McCain, R.I.P.

leave a comment »

Sen. John McCain announced he was  discontinuing  his brain cancer treatment just a few days ago, and  has now  died.   He will be lionized,  but I shall not join in,  and I will not miss him.   I miss Charles Krauthammer daily,  his wit and wisdom and turn of phrase having been part of my life for many years.

McCain spent most of his life being a jerk and glorying in it.   He held himself out to be a moral arbiter,  conveniently forgetting what he and John Kerry did to the families of Vietnam POW’s.   I always suspected he himself thought he had failed to live up to his father and grandfather —    one of the few things I agreed with him on.   The only behavior I saw consistent evidence of was his belief that he should be more important than anyone else.   He changed his stances on political issues depending largely on whether he sought more approval from his squishy buddies and the liberal media.  The same  liberal media  which called him a racist and Islamophobe during his presidential run against Sait Barack Obama, are now praising McCain, as he is now dead and has no chance to rise up and object to their narrative.

I hope he rests in peace,  but I will not mourn him.

Sen. Chuck Schumer is introducing a resolution  to rename  a Senate  office building after McCain.   I doubt it is because Schumer either liked or respected him.   Sarah Palin  was most  gracious  —  probably more than her former running mate deserved.   Pres.  Trump responded appropriately and quickly given the acrimony between the two men.

UPDATE:  Meghan McCain is entitled to give a  lovely tribute  to her father.   Hillary’s memories  lack class,  but what else would you expect?

UPDATE:  Vietnam  remembers  the Navy pilot it arrested too.   So does Jay Nordlinger.

Can Palin win?

leave a comment »

Robert Barnes has an  interesting take  on whether former Alaska Governor and Vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin can prevail in her libel lawsuit against the New York Times,  which recently accused of being directly responsible for the shooting of former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.

I’m now rather hopeful that the paper’s long string of successful defenses against libel litigation may come to an end,  which I would enjoy doubly because of the effect Palin has on liberals.

UPDATE:  More from  the Washington Post and  from FOX  News.

Embarrassment…

leave a comment »

Glenn Beck says he  is embarrassed  that he ever supported Sarah Palin.   He has many things about which he should be embarrassed,  but supporting someone who loves this country and what it represents without reservation or hesitation is not amongst them.  He  must know this.

Yes,  I know today is 9/11,  but I’m scanning the coverage and weighing how it has changed in fourteen years.   I’ll have a post on it tomorrow.

UPDATE:  Breitbart has the  backstory here.

Sarah vs. hogs…

leave a comment »

You’d think Sarah Palin had started World War III instead of  taking out one of the feral hogs which bedevil Texas.   I daresay the farmers and hunters would welcome the Governor to stay and slay as long as she wished.

Clinton vs Palin…

leave a comment »

In book sales,  the ladies aren’t even close.   Palin’s book sold nearly  half a million   copies its first week out,  while Clinton could muster only 100,000,  and who knows how many of those were purchased by Democratic operatives and members of  Hillary’s campaign.

Wonderful political ad…

If you haven’t seen this smashing campaign ad from Iowa candidate for U.S. Senate Joni Ernst,   watch here.   Bennie Quigley of The Hill views Ernst as  second-generation  Sarah Palin,  and in a sense he is correct.   Mrs. Ernst is a wife,  mother, a Lt. Colonel in the Army National Guard,  and a confident conservative.   It is no accident that she has been endorsed by Palin.   The candidate has already driven FOX’s Gerarldo Rivera to hysteria with just her “Squeal” ad.   I sent her some money.  I hope you will as well.   I look forward to seeing her demolish the Senate’s meanest men,  Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid.

Let Sarah speak…

I personally don’t care if Sarah Palin speaks at the Republican National Convention or not,  but she was such a refreshing breath of clean air that I enjoy remembering  some of her best quotes.
