Enough, already…

We don’t need any more Clintons,  or Bushes or Obamas,  and we certainly don’t need any more Kennedys,  even if Jack Schlossberg is the grandson of JFK and looks rather like him.   Like so many in his family,  he thinks being a Kennedy is a sufficient substitute for character and morals and experience.   It ain’t,  so I’m begging his mother Caroline to  stop him  from entering politics.   We’ve had more than enough of this particular political dynasty.

Oil spill…

leave a comment »

Yes, it’s awful,  and yes, it gives His Oneness the perfect excuse to postpone indefinitely new offshore drilling,  but it’s important to remember that shipping oil by tankers is much more of an environmental danger.

And this is far from the  worst oil rig accident.

Of course,  RFK,  Jr. is blaming Bush and the entire oil industry and as usual is  spouting statistics which bear little relation to reality.  He is a most tiresome individual,  which seems to be a family trait.

Over at PowerLine,  John Hinderaker ponders the very real difference between Hurricane Katrina and the BP rig explosion.

More Congressional retirements…

leave a comment »

Ultra-lefty Rep.  Diane Watson (D-CA) is  retiring to spend more time with her mother.    Good riddance to a junior Maxine Waters.

Rep.  Lincoln Diaz-Balart is  also resigning,  but his brother,  Mario  is switching from his adjacent congressional district to run for the seat,  so one would expect it to stay in Republican hands.

And yes,  there will be more such announcements from both sides in the weeks and months to come.

UPDATE:  And now Rep.  Patrick Kennedy  has announced he won’t run for re-election.    Since he has already admitted to never having worked a day in his life,  we can expect more of the same from him, I’m sure.    He also called Sen.  Scott Brown’s successful candidacy for his father’s seat a joke.   Gee,  what does that make you,  Patches?

Jack Murtha gone…

leave a comment »

Democrats have already begun using Rep.  John Murtha’s death from complications of gall bladder surgery as a reason to avoid tort reform, much as they tried to use Ted Kennedy’s death to push their hideous health reform bills through Congress.

So Pelosi has lost not merely her best bully,  but also  another vote for health reform in the House.    I have nothing good to say about Murtha.   I’m old enough to remember the Abscam scandal,  which Murtha spent two decades lying about,  but what truly reduced him to subhuman level for me was his careless condemnation of the Haditha marines,  all the more disgusting because he was once a Marine himself.

I have known a good many Marines,  and  Murtha was the only ex-Marine amongst them,  proving the exception to the  “Once a Marine,  always a Marine”  saying.   I will shed no more tears for him than I did for Ted Kennedy.    Two powerful and powerfully corrupt men are gone.    Good riddance.

Poor Paul Kirk…

leave a comment »

The Boston Globe snivels into its  crying towel because no Republicans attended the farewell speech of Sen. Paul Kirk,  the placeholder for the Kennedy seat.   Yet the piece admits that the Republicans didn’t appear to get a timely heads-up.

And in a wonderful throwaway line says that “more than a dozen” Dems attended.   Presumably his own party members did receive ample notice,  and only 13 showed?   That’s what — 20%?   Let’s be generous and assume the number was 15,  so they had a whole one-quarter of their caucus.

How can anyone imagine that these people are adults?   My under-eight great-nephews don’t whine and complain over manufactured and imagined slights this much.

And it probably won’t soothe Kennedy-lover feathers any to read about this poll showing  Patches is in trouble in Rhode Island.

Massachusetts race…

leave a comment »

The race for Ted Kennedy’s Senate seat is the hottest thing in the country.   If you want to see why Scott Brown has a real chance at winning it,  despite being a Republican,  watch this memorable moment from last night’s debate.

Then watch his clever response to Coakley’s blast of attack ads   —   the $1.3 million Brown raised on line yesterday has enabled him to fight back on tv.

Cap-and-trade reality…

leave a comment »

The graduate student who dreamed up cap-and-trade four decades ago is now a retired economist who doubts that the system is the most effective way to regulate carbon.

This is no less important for Barbara Boxer’s having announced that Ted Kennedy’s death and John Kerry’s hip replacement surgery have delayed her push for this job-destroying monstrosity.

And now small mining firms are announcing they don’t support any part of the bill.    There is a crack in the progressive dam,  and we all need to be vigilant,  searching for ways to enlarge it,  especially with the Senate version due out.
