Safety not guaranteed…

Jonathan Last has written a  marvelous article  about taking his young son to Yellowstone National Park.   Every parent should be required to read it, but especially the helicopter parents.   You all know some,  ever present,  ever ready to interfere if their little darlings are at risk of getting a boo-boo.

I grew up on a farm,  and was taught early and often that actions have consequences and that you are responsible for keeping your brain in gear and reacting appropriately to your circumstances.   I was taught how to behave around horses and cattle and farm equipment.   I learned which snakes were poisonous,  how to recognize rabid animals,  and what the proper courses of action were when confronted by them.   My parents kept an eye on me,  but generally with such subtlety that I was unaware.   Of course,  my father thought that at age eight I was perfectly capable of riding several miles of fence line on my very large horse with only my faithful dog accompanying us.   He was correct,  but some government ninny would probably try to charge him with child endangerment or neglect in this day and age.

The lessons I learned about the natural world as a child carried over into adulthood,  and have kept me safe all over the world,  including Yellowstone itself.   ear spray wasn’t available when I visited,  but I did have a stout oak hiking staff which would have proved as useful in fending off bears as it did an annoyed rattler the group ahead of me on the trail had stupidly messed with.

Take all your children to Yellowstone for the beauty and the education.  Or take them to one of the nation’s many national parks and forests.  Or just to a local park,  if it still allows swings and has a little pond to muddy your feet with.  Humans are basically advanced chimpanzees,  so if your children learn to navigate the natural world they’ll have a good start on finding their path through the pitfalls of the human world.

…is literally putting  her life  on the line to sing.   In the process,  Helly Luv makes Western pop icons look like complete wimps,  don’t you think?

Great Britain just can’t  catch a break  on the weather,  continuing its bad luck in winter weather.    Pray for your friends there  —  this type of winter weather truly is dangerous.

Old airport at Hong Kong…

leave a comment »

These pictures  show you why the old airport at Hong Kong was so dangerous that it was closed 15 years ago.  I flew into Hong Kong in the 1960’s,  and my first thought was  “Where is the airport?”,  followed by the realization that the Pan Am jet was going to land on a postage stamp in the middle of a construction site.   The passengers applauded when we had touched down and safely come to a halt.

Treason, not justice…

Start by reading  the letter sent to His Oneness November 9th,  then add your signature to the list,  which will be updated periodically and sent to the White House.

Next,  read this excerpt from Andy McCarthy’s book,   Willful Blindness,  in light of the treasonous  decisions made on where to try the 9/11 conspirators.

And then read Andy’s  next post,  which points out this decision is just another means of attacking the Bush Administration and anyone else who takes terrorism seriously.    It will be a doorway for lefties everywhere to file criminal charges against in European courts and the ICC,  and will also provide a huge platform for the terrorists.    Even worse,   the vast amounts of intelligence  —  data, means and personnel  —  which the courts will force the government to give to the defendants will make it easier for their brethren to kill us.

I nearly spewed out my coffee when AG Eric Holder claimed politics had been taken out of this decision.    This is PURE politics, NOTHING else.    It is insanely dangerous,  and it is entirely unnecessary.   All five jihadists,  led by mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed,  wanted to plead guilty to the military commissions.    The only reason to disallow that is to achieve what His Oneness wants while allowing him to claim he has no responsibility for the prosecutions or the consequences.

I’ll be posting more on this,  but for now,  get ready to call your Congress critters,  the White House,  and the Justice Department.    We still have time to stop this,  but we must act swiftly.
