Interstate fire…

This is not the first time I have been glad I don’t live in or  around Atlanta. Don’t get me wrong  —  it’s a fine city with many interesting things to see and do in the area, but having this portion of I-85 unusable for the next few months will make just passing through the area difficult,  not to mention the daily commute.   Atlanta traffic is always busy,  but unlike many large cities, traffic generally moves along art a good clip,  and enough drivers retain a vestige of Southern manners to let you in rather than trying to prevent you from joining the traffic flow.

But there just aren’t that many alternative routes for a high number of the surrounding areas,  and the ways available to bypass what Southerners call the Atlanta bypass are  already clogged with far more than their normal share of traffic.   My advice is to avoid Atlanta and its environs if you can.

R.I.P. rocker….

If like me,  your teeth clinched every time disco music came on,  you went trolling on the radio in the 1970s for something more pleasing to the ear.  You probably became a fan of the Atlanta Rhythm Section and its bluesy soft Southern Rock if you weren’t already.

Its former lead singer,  Ronnie Hammond,  died last week.  Aaron Goldstein has a  nice glance back and a link to one of their big hits which typified the smooth vocals and technical musical proficiency of a group to go along with interesting lyrics which I find have held up well over the intervening years.
