Hosni Mubarak, R.I.P.
Mubarak was the autocratic president who ruled Egypt for nearly 30 years until being ensnared by the Arab Spring in 2011. He apparently spent his final years in a military hospital in Cairo. Since he assumed the highest office after the assassination of Anwar Sadat, I have always wondered if he had a hand in that death.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the killing of anti-government protesters during the uprising, but was later retried, then subsequently acquitted and released in 2017.
He was sentenced to life imprisonment for involvement in the killing of anti-government protesters during the uprising, but later retried and subsequently acquitted and released in 2017. Almost 900 protesters were killed in the 18-day movement that ended when he stepped down and turned power over to the military, leading His Oneness to make another of his typically wishy-washy brayings. Personally I don’t wish the old tyrant any peace, so the lede is merely a pro forma pleasantry. he did nothing to deserve to sleep with the angels. I thoroughly disapprove of the honors the government is sending him off with.
