Thai King Bhumibol, R.I.P.

King Bhumibol had been the world’s  longest-reigning monarch  and was highly revered by people of his country.   His son,  Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn,  is expected to succeed him,  having been designated as heir-apparent in 1972.

To say that the Crown Prince is  not a chip  off the old block would be a gross understatement.   Given Thailand’s recent history of upheaval,  it’s anyone’s guess as to what effect the King’s death will have on the stability of the country,  even though he had been in ill health for quite some time.
