Bullet train misfires…

leave a comment »

California has  yet another  useless,  hideously expensive boondoggle,  one more useless project which was based on lies.   The 800-mile High Speed Train network was supposed to be funded with matching funds from various government and private entities,  so that taxes would not have to be raised to pay for it.

It is at least 50% over budget,  and the best California can do at this stage is kill the project,  considering that the state’s May cap-and-trade carbon dioxide auction raised only $10 million of the expected $500 million.   Since the scheme was counting on borrowing against future auction proceeds as an income stream,  the economics are flat out busted,  not that anyone with a decent brain ever thought they would actually work.

Now the question is whether voters will allow the state to use the $500 million reserve on a filed liberal project which would have served pitifully few people.   This abject and utter failure should be Gov. Jerry brown’s lasting legacy.

West Virginia inundated…

leave a comment »

The state has  been hit  by rains of nearly Biblical proportions,  resulting in death and massive property destruction.   The most startling thing I’ve seen is  this video  of a burning house being swept down a river.   Put these benighted residents in your prayers  —  they surely need them.

Wonderful news…

Beijing  is sinking  —  literally.   Its 20 million inhabitants are using up too much of the ground water in the capital,  and different areas are subsiding at different rates,  which poses a threat to infrastructure,  most notably the high-speed rail system.   The Chinese bureaucrats are aware of the pending problem,  but who knows whether they will actually do anything about it before disaster occurs?

Mike Flynn, R.I.P.

Mike Flynn,  the news editor at Breitbart,  has died.  He was an original hire by Andrew Breitbart,  and like Andrew,  had a large personality and a happy  warrior attitude  when it came to defending conservatism and tirelessly promoting it.   He had a  wide range  of friends and acquaintances to tap for information on topics of interest and used them.

Rep. Fattah expelled…

leave a comment »

For only the sixth time in its history,  Congress has expelled  a member, Pennsylvania representative Chaka Fattah,  who was just convicted on multiple counts of racketeering and fraud.    Fattah didn’t want to resign until the day before his sentencing hearing,  which didn’t sit well with House leadership.   As a point of interest,  all six people expelled have been Democrats,  which is in keeping with the character of their presidential candidate.

Car lovers expected that Dodge would produce a  special edition  of the powerful car as its last hurrah,  but there will be five of them,  all limited productions.

Brexit — yea or nay?

leave a comment »

Daniel Hannan wants voters to  fire him  from his job as an EU parliament member.   Thursday is  the day  the voters decide.   Polls differed on the final day of the campaign,  but it is widely judged as too close to  call.  Markets and bettors have selected  the stay  side,  but who knows?   Some media outlets are  calling for  the exit.   Banks are in a lather over  the vote.   Could it be as simple as whether  you believe  in the concept of Britain?

You should pay attention,  because Brits are  fed up  with their elites as many of us are.   Iain Murray is calling it  Britain’s time  for choosing,  referencing Ronald Reagan’s memorable speech.   And now  Euroscepticism is hitting  the French.     For what it’s worth,  I always thought the European Union was a terrible idea,  and I’d say history has already proven me correct.

FOX News is schedule to report on the results of the referendum vote tomorrow morning at 1:00 AM.    I’ll be watching.

UPDATE:  Is Brexit  already defeated?

UPDATE:  No, wait,  Brexit is on the rise.
