Canada ablaze…

Poor Canada!   Fort McMurray in Alberta province is under siege by a raging firestorm which the authorities are having zero luck in containing. Nearly 100,000 people have already been evacuated,  and more will be to avoid the ravenous flames which have already destroyed 1,600 buildings and many hundreds of acres.   The inferno has also put almost a quarter of Canada’s oil production off-line, which is a huge economic hit.

These photos  show the devastation,  and remind me of a war zone.   It will take years to rebuild,  and many families’ lives have been shattered. Pets owners were forced to leave behind  are being  rescued as well.   Dry conditions and high winds are a lethal combination when applied to a fire.   I hope there is no loss of life,  and that Mother Nature takes pity on Canada and sends rain and shifts the winds away.
