A man who loves his job…

National Park Service guide John W. McCaskill  guides visitors  around the Martin Luther King, Jr. memorial on the National Mall.   His reverence for Dr. King and appreciation of the civil rights movement   make it easy for him to do his job with good cheer.   An historian with three degrees,  he has certainly put them to good use.

My admiration for Dr. King is tempered by his feet of solid clay.  Like many men who achieved great things,  he was bedeviled by personal flaws and lapses.

In this life one has only two choices:  do what you love, or learn to love what you do.   On this holiday,  let us celebrate Mr. McCaskill for having achieved that happy state.

In related news,  Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson is pushing for MLK to have a  separate holiday  which isn’t celebrated jointly with Gen. Robert E. Lee,  as it is in several Southern states.

Read this 2013 piece from National Review on the  Left’s refusal  to acknowledge the part religion played in MLK’s life.
