Waterbear revival…

leave a comment »

You may know the microscopic water-dwelling organisms as water piglets,  or if, unlike me,  you remember any of your science classes, you may come up with the proper name of tardigrades.   They  matter because scientists have revived some which had been frozen for more than thirty years.  One survived long enough to reproduce,  so  researchers are seeking to unravel the mechanism for long-term survival by looking into damage to tardigrades’ DNA and their ability to repair it.
