Incandescent bulb return?

leave a comment »

MIT researchers have discovered a way to make incandescent light bulbs more efficient than LEDs.   They found that  by surrounding  the filament with a special crystal structure they can bounce back the energy typically lost through heat transfer.

After my utter disappointment with Chinese-made incandescents,  I switched to what they call “rough service” bulbs,  which are incandescents designed for use in weather conditions — think barns, outdoor porch fixtures,  and the like.

Hopefully,  this technological advance will bring American manufacturers back into the business of making incandescents.   Until then,  I will continue to buy American-made rough service bulbs.
