Cherry blossoms on the National Mall…

leave a comment »

We normally expect the cherry trees on the National Mall to bloom in early spring,  and it is a truly glorious sight,  but they are among the species which can have more than one bloom period,  so that is the most likely explanation for  this early  winter treat.

That said,  it has been another strange weather year.   I was given a commercial chrysanthemum plant,  and it has bloomed again,  which is fairly unusual.   There were only about a fourth as many blooms this time, but they were larger.   I’m still picking a variety of peppers,  but the freezing weather I expect shortly will put paid to that.   I’m saving the  habanero plant,  but the rest will join the tomato plants in my compost bins,  as they have become too leggy to produce well in the future.
