Too much rain…

I lived in South Carolina several decades ago.   It’s a lovely state with many waterways,  and a lot of the low-lying land which goes along with that.   Back then,  people knew to keep an eye on the weather because of water’s potential for damage,  but judging by the number of reported rescues,   too many citizens have forgotten that.

I lived in Columbia for a while,  and there really is nowhere to easily dump such rain totals.  You have to depend on gravity and topography to carry it to rivers and streams,  and with the ground totally saturated (that’s why coffins are  coming up) one can only pray for the rain to stop.  It does seem to be  trending that  way,  but now the lower parts of the state will be coming under flood conditions.

The slow-motion disaster caused by this extraordinary rainstorms is creating havoc elsewhere,  but South Carolina is bearing the worst of it.
