Do elephants have souls?

Caitrin Nicol Keiper has published a rather lengthy,  but quite  fascinating  article with that lede.   We humans factor in a certain degree of anthropomorphism when pondering this question.  Many animal lovers will insist that all animals have souls.   Some claim only mammals do. At the other extreme are those who claim there is no such thing as a soul.

I suspect most of us fall somewhere in between.   I have observed many domesticated animals displaying emotions and attitudes identifiable to humans.   Is that because dogs and cats and horses are often able to bond with humans more successfully than other mammals?   I honestly don’t know.   Am I biased towards my genus?   You bet I am.   Those who don’t have a marked preference for their own kind rather quickly become known as  “the former,  now-extinct”  clan.

Comedian Jay Leno took a wounded warrior for  a ride  in a muscle car,  then gave it to him.

That makes up for his  wimping out  of speaking at the SHOT show in Las Vegas after drawing fire from gun control activists.
