Feeding a tiger…

leave a comment »

Dealing with the federal government is like feeding a tiger — you never know when it’s going to want your hand along with the slab of meat.    And its nose is always going to be the largest trying to get into the tent,  and have the most teeth.

The EPA has been dredging in the Hudson River to scoop up the nasty PCB which has been entombed at the bottom.   Operations have already been halted once,  when the procedure stirred up so much of the chemical that its levels in the water soared dangerously.

Fort Edward,  about 40 miles north of Albany,   was one of the largest forts in the colonies during the French and Indian War in the mid-18th century,  and it was a key strategic position during the American Revolution.    Much of the archaeological site where the fort was located was destroyed on August 14th when dredgers pulled two large timbers out of the river bank.

The EPA is so terribly sorry,  and it didn’t mean for the General Electric equipment to wreck such havoc,  but the beams are full of the nasty chemical and will have to be dumped in the landfill.   And hey,  we’re the EPA,   so you can’t sue us or our contractor,  even though we’d hound you to the gates of Hell for doing the same thing,  even if you had all the permits.    We don’t have to follow the same regulations we place on you,  or even the law.   We’re the government!
