Ideology, not science…

leave a comment »

If you aren’t familiar with the Transterrestrial Musings site, visit it.  Rand  Simberg claims he’s ” just a recovering aerospace engineer.”    He is also scientifically literate,  tech-savvy,  and just plain smart.

He proves it with this analysis of the speech on science His Oneness proffered today.

As for me,  I won’t be holding my breath on the Obama Administration employing real science any time soon.    I take this speech to mean that His Oneness wants all research to be government-funded and therefore government-controlled,  which means the only research anybody will do is on the things he wants.  Oh,  joy!

But karma visited again,   as the magical speaker outran his teleprompter.

Stomping on snakes…

Wesley Pruden has an excellent column regarding Obama’s two-step on the interrogation memos.    The last line gave me the title for this post.

The American Thinker blasts the “moral bearings” of His Oneness with regard to interrogations.

IBD jumps all over Speaker Pelosi’s claims of  ignorance and powerlessness about waterboarding

Former Sen. Fred Thompson lets loose on His Oneness,  here.    There’s a video embedded.     And even the WaPo understands the damage being done to the CIA.

Reuel Marc Gerecht explains why it matters whether  “America’s liberal foreign-policy establishment is willing to combat Islamic radicalism aggressively”,  and what Obama’s totally political move means.

And on Obama’s decision to release the prisoner abuse photos, ABC’s Jake Tapper reports the CIA realizes it has no cover any more.

Let’s finish with Deroy Murdock, whose view is that we should be proud of waterboarding.

Truth-telling…

Noemie Emery has a superb in-your-face piece on enhanced interrogations,  welcoming a “truth commission” which will show the liars for what they are.    She obviously doesn’t share Ted Olson’s fears about a never-ending investigation,  nor does Stuart Taylor.

Former CIA Director,  Porter Goss,  lets loose on his former congressional colleagues who seem to be suffering severe memory lapses.   It’s more personal, and more sharply directed than this Washington Times piece,  which focuses mainly on Speaker Pelosi.

Ilana Mercer is forthright about her views on torture,  and merciless in rubbishing the switchers.    Hal  Lindsay is content to point out the utter lack of logic Obama employed in making his decision to release the memos.   David Limbaugh weighs in on it from a national security standpoint.

Cheney, restrained as usual…

leave a comment »

I was going to post this interview by Sheryl Gay Stolberg of Dick Cheney without comment,  but I couldn’t do it.    She clearly doesn’t like her subject, but because he is anything but “unrestrained”,  he gave her scant ammunition.

I suppose she just forgot that Jimmy Carter has never shut up, and neither has Al Gore.    Ah,  even when it tries to report,  the Gray Lady can’t help but editorialize!    Does Stolberg have any clue that the former Vice President is totally immune to her opinion?    I doubt it.

Interrogation mess…

At National Review,  Andy McCarthy lays into His Oneness for the interrogation mess he created and is now trying to avoid the predictable consequences for.

And Cliff May uses the misinformation about waterboarding to show just how much thought was put into drawing the line between stress and duress.

And John Dickerson at Slate weighs  in on Obama’s torture positions.

A nut-job’s progress…

In another freebies for votes stunt,  Iranian president Ahmadinejad’s camp announced free orange handouts for his rally.   You will not believe where the oranges came from.

Happy-faced spider…

Who says Mother Nature doesn’t have a sense of humor?

Hawaii offers us a tiny spider,  harmless to humans,  with astonishing markings,  which presumably don’t evoke the same response from  its would-be predators as it does in people.
