Why Chicago lost…

with 3 comments

Five quite rational  reasons why Chicago lost its bid for the 2016 Olympics,  and ten much less  serious ones.

Victor Davis Hanson thinks Obama’s  performance was a  PR disaster,  though White House flack David Axelrod was quck to  blame Olympic politics,  while others are blaming Mayor Daly for pushing His Oneness to go to Copenhagen.   Jonah offers some readers’  comments over at The  Corner.     Illinois Senator Roland Burris blames it all on Pres. Bush.

I don’t think Obama will pay any attention to Frank  Luntz’s take. , and he certainly won’t be amused by that of Mike Potemra.

And His Oneness will absolutely hate Fred Barnes’  piece in the Weekly Standard,  which points out the coverage is a test of the media’s willingness to cover the president professionally and honestly.   Will the media pass or fail?

Patron-in-chief…

without comments

We are in trouble when the mayor of  Chicago has more pull at the White House than our commander in Afghanistan.   Of course,  His Oneness is accustomed to dealing with the machine which made him,  but is providing a timely example of the folly of electing a man to high office when he has no other experience.

One could say that Obama is tending to his future.    Chicago is broke,  and it needs the Olympics to refill its coffers through fees, taxes,  and kick-backs.   If Chicago succeeds in grabbing the games, I think it will finally overtake New Orleans as the most corrupt city in America,  despite the French having reached the Big Easy first.

Chicago style…

without comments

Fromn the Drudge Report comes this cautionary tale of the local FOX station being ordered not to run its report on Chicago residents who do NOT want the Olympics to visit their already miserable burg.

This is the “leadership”  style which has been voted into the White House,  and you’d be well advised to study it so you’ll cease being surprised by anything unsavory which emanates from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Democrats and the Guardian Council..

without comments

The Democrats and Iran’s Guardian Council have something in common:  neither sees any real problem with having more votes than eligible voters in cities.

“… the incident has happened in only 50 cities,”  the Council said.  That’s comparable to hearing Democrats explain why the dead still vote in Chicago,  Detroit,  etc.    The Council added that voter turnout of above 100% in some cities is a normal phenomenon because there is no legal limitation for people to vote for the presidential elections in another city or province to which people often travel or commute.   I guess that would explain why residents of New York voted from their winter homes in Florida…

And now with budgets so tight,  Democrats have an additional excuse to avoid cleaning up voter rolls.    The Iranian theocracy is fascism in the name of Allah,  and like most of the Middle East,  hopelessly corrupt,  displaying competence only in theft,  seldom in governing.

If you consider the number of cities run by Democratic machines, and how poorly they serve their citizens,  a nasty parallel appears.  Our own government entities are much less resistant to the lure of corruption that they once were.    And now we have the prime product of the Chicago machine in the White House,  running the country just as the machine has long run Chicago.   I am not the least surprised that Obama violated the same law protecting Inspectors General that he co-sponsored,  nor am I astonished that big media can’t get its lips off his posterior long enough to report on it.   Are you?

His Oneness abroad…

without comments

I just caught part of Obama’s remarks at a G20 press conference, and was struck by his comment that “he was pleased with the product…” when in fact his agenda did not carry the day.     Regarding America’s  diminished role in the world, he said,   ” In a world as complex as it is, uh, it is very important for us to be able to forge partnerships as opposed to simply dictating solutions.”    Well, if his goal was to criticize America,  and weaken it,  he succeeded.

Apparently that doesn’t carry over to his own country, where he is dictating that he is emperor,  and woe betide any who dare oppose him.     Names are being taken, and asses will be kicked.

Good thing Chief Enforcer — I mean, Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel used to be a ballet dancer and has toes — and a tongue — of  steel.  Actually that particular brand of athletes are prone to bad feet,  stress fractures, ankle and knee joint injuries, and chronic malnourishment, which might explain Emanuel’s famously bad temper.

White House forgetfulness…

without comments

POLITICO actually notices that the White House isn’t posting what it should,  and thus not keeping faith with its grand proclamation of open,  transparent administration.

This site tracks the campaign promises of His Oneness.

The Obama victory bash still owes $1.74 million to the city of Chicago,  which already has a $50.5 million budget shortfall.

They haven’t quite descended to the Clintonian excuse of   “we’re not crooked, just incompetent”,  but  “this was just a mere oversight”  is getting close,  isn’t it?

What was it the Church Lady used to say on Saturday Night Live?  How conveeeeenient!

The wave rolls over us…

with one comment

I just watched His Oneness sign the porkulus bill with an enormously self-satisfied smirk on his face.    His prefacing remarks were pure campaign rhetoric.

And the market is down another 256 points at the momentum,  which means it still doesn’t like the plan.

And it doesn’t like it for very simple reasons  –  Obama has spent so much time talking down the economy;   every action he has taken to date has made employment more difficult  (think Ledbetter Act and his wet kisses to the labor unions);   the market has concluded Geithner doesn’t know what he’s doing;   the market is realizing that none of this fixes the original problems.

Of course my contention has always been that the stimulus is about government control,  not the economy.    Sometimes I hate being right.

And on top of this,  Sen.  Burris,  who now occupies Obama’s hardly-warmed Senate seat,  has admitted he tried to raise money for former Gov. Blago,  after denying categorically he had done so in the supplemental affidavit he filed with an Illinois Senate Democrat after his original testimony during Blago’s impeachment.    Gee, a career politician from Chicago has lied  –  I’m shocked, SHOCKED!

Do you think it might possibly begin to occur to people that another career politician sits in the White House with the thermostat cranked up to 80 degrees?   As a Special Forces friend put it,  “You need the heat if you”re cold-blooded,  don’t you?”
