Tickets for honoring the fallen…
This is so typical of Chicago – and Mayor Rahm would have cheerfully have let the city collect all that money if he hadn’t begun getting hammered by those affected.
Chicago most corrupt…
Now some professor has done the work to prove that my late father was right — Chicago would have always been the most corrupt city in the USA except that the French got to New Orleans first. But Hurricane Katrina temporarily wiped out a lot of the territory available for graft and corruption, so the adopted home city of His Oneness has taken the clear lead.
Emanuel lies…
Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel proposed temporary extraordinary security measures to handle protesters who are expected to descend descend on the city for the NATO and G-8 summits. But it appears there is nothing temporary about them, to which Rahm’s response is that he just made a little mistake. His former boss is trying to institute much the same sort of authoritarian policies, but he just lies without even bothering to claim he erred.
Not to worry — it’s just the Chicago Way.
2012 = 1968?
That’s the title of John Heilemann’s column, here, in which he wonders if the Democratic National Convention will be the riot the 1968 one was. Heilemann is honest enough to tell you that thew movement which claims to be organic and leaderless isn’t without leaders. But he doesn’t tell you that the real leaders are from various Soros-funded leftist groups.
As much as I would enjoy seeing the Left blow itself to bits and destroy His Oneness in the ensuing conflagration, I don’t expect it to happen. For one thing, Charlotte, NC is not Chicago, and is already taking steps to deal with the potential. For another, the citizens of Charlotte will not tolerate what those of Chicago did.
Chicago has…
the mayor it so richly deserves, the corrupt and profane Rahm Emanuel. His Oneness must be so very proud that his pick miraculously got the exact percentage needed to avoid a run-off.
From Chicago…
This is what soul-dead, rotten Chicago produces, along with His Oneness and Our Lady of Perpetual Dissatisfaction.
2 pieces…
of news I find pleasing. First, idiotic Keith Olbermann has departed MSNBC in a poisonous cloud and in a manner befitting a jerk.
Second, Rahm Emanuel has been thrown off the ballot in Chicago for failing to meet the residency requirement. He’s asking the Illinois Supreme Court for an emergency stay, which gives him time to answer this question: How much does it cost to buy a judge in Chicago these days?
Chicago press thugs…
If you haven’t seen this video of Chicago reporters playing thugs to protect Rahm Emanuel, you really need to watch so you’ll have a better understanding of the Chicago Way. No doubt Rahm was sorry not to have them around for his interview with the Chicago Sun-Times. This is where His Oneness chose to pursue his political career, a corrupt place where the dead routinely vote and where “wrong” votes don’t count. The only truth is that you must amass power and wield it ruthlessly. The Obamas’ idea of public service is that the public should serve them.
If I had the misfortune to live in Chicago, at best I’d be in jail, but more likely I’d be dead. Most of its citizens just keep their heads down and try to stay out of the crossfire as the crooks and incompetents grind the city out of existence. I visited Chicago once as a child, and again as an adult, but I wouldn’t go back with a paid first-class ticket now.
In keeping with Chicago, we know now that the Illinois State Board of Elections lied to the Department of Justice about the status of military ballots, and still isn’t telling the truth. Why do I assume DoJ will do as much about these offenses as it did about the Black Panthers?
Speaking of Democrats and the press, Yid With Lid has a great report on New York Rep. Maurice Hinchey’s meltdown, complete with some video.
Chicago gangland…
In what city besides Chicago could gang leaders hold a press conference to complain about Chicago Police Supt. Jody Weis’ threats to crack down on gang leaders?
I can’t think of another one. Supt. Weis apparently said in a secret meeting with gang leaders that he was going after them using RICO statues if they shot each other, which the gangs claim amounts to unfair harassment.
John Kass puts it all into the proper perspective, here.
All of Chicago is run by gangs of one sort or another, and that’s where His Oneness learned his political craft, isn’t it? Nothing will change when Daley retires, or when Rahm Emanuel takes over. We know the one-time ballet dancer wants that job, but the path may not be as easy as he imagines.
Costs of corruption…
John Kass has a powerful column on the Sunday murder of veteran Chicago police Officer Michael Bailey outside his home. Bailey was still in uniform, having spent the night guarding Mayor Daley’s home.
When robbers no longer fear a cop in uniform, there is a huge problem, and Kass unflinchingly points out that the Chicago Machine has spent so much on cronyism and corruption there is no money left for the police force required to take back the streets.
Phyllis Schlafly wrote about debt in her piece “Illinois Failures Go Nationwide Under Obama”, but it only reinforces Kass’s point. And you certainly can’t rely on Old Media to tell you the ugly truth, since, as Monty Pelerin notes, MSM has told us more than we wanted to know about Tiger Wood’s infidelities, and nothing about His Oneness.
